Hello, I hope you're having a great day. I'll jump right into the race recap. This past Sunday, 4/11/2021, J Day Off-Road held their opening race at the legendary MX338 motocross track in Southwick Massachusetts. It was packed with racers. I am not yet sure of the total entries but it's said to be the biggest J Day race to date so I believe it should be over 1200. LBR Moto had 5 riders on track, 3 team riders and 2 support. Team Riders: Jon Gagnon - B Vet - #105 - Jon had an awesome race. He was up towards the front right from the start and about 20 minutes into the 30 minute moto he was battling for the lead. He made the pass at the start of the last lap but with about half way to go a lapped rider cut across the track, hit Jon's front wheel and tipped him over. He got up and held on for 2nd. In his second moto he started about 5th and battled for position the entire race going back and fourth and finally ended up in 3rd. Jon went 2-3 for 3rd overall. Jared Drouin - B Vet - #333 - Jared had a solid race for basically getting up off the couch and going to the track. Not much luck in moto 1 with a bad start and getting caught up in traffic and a pretty good fall in the beginning of moto 2 he made the most of out the day. Jared finished 21-26 for 24th overall. Kyle Sackett - C Vet - #253 - Let me just say that my shoulders are still sore as I type this. I forgot how rough Southwick can get and it's a heck of a tack to have a season opener. Off the start I almost instantly locked bars with the squirrelly gentleman next to me. According to timing I was 44th out of 50 at the end of the first lap and I've never ridden so tight and uncomfortable in my life. After a few deep breaths and relaxing a bit I picked up the pace and fought my way back to 27th. The second moto I had a much better start and felt much more comfortable but so did the rest of the field. I was only able to better my positions by 1 spot and finish 26th. I know what I need to work on and I am going to ride my tail off between now and the next race. I finished 27-26 for 28th overall. Support Riders: Nate Marr - A 200 - #84 - Nate had a good race on his new bike in his new class. He finished 6-8 for 6th overall. Colton McQuarrie - Mini B - #34 - This little guy is fast! His dad and I have been talking about upping the level of support for next year or even just as the season progresses. It seems like he had a fight on his hands the entire race. Colton finished 3-2 for 2nd overall. I am glad that the season is underway and we know where we stand with the competition and know what we need to work on.
Thank You,
Kyle Sackett
